The Pick N Patch

The pumkins there were $4 a peice, and that was too much. I told them we would have to go somewhere else for them. But then we found big bins of gourds that they thought were cute and they were only 50 cents. I can handle that.

Grace had more fun putting them back in than she did picking them out.

This was Jacob's original choice.

But he soon changed his mind.
They've been watching "the food move" (veggie tales) this week at church. Jacob was thrilled when he found some of the characters.
"Ehh! Look, Joe! This looks like Larry!"

ANd this one is "the giant pickle"

Yeah, no one picked this one.

First Frost and Looking "fore leafs"

"Oh, it looks like it snowed!" They said, as we opened the blinds. So, of course, before anybody was served breakfast or dressed (including me) I had to go out and get some pictures of our first frost before it all melted.

On Sunday, the kids took a walk to find some leaves. They don't have to go far. We have lots of different and very colorful leaves right in the yard. But it's much more fun when you make a trip out of it.
This is what I found on our chalkboard. Courtney gets her spelling skills from me. Yep, we learns her at home!

These were Jacob's finds. He displayed them on the table for me and explained who was who. I love how the ones for Jacob and Joe are the same. So cute.

A few more from our walk

It always amazes me how beautiful this spot is.

Bethany was showing Grace how to throw rocks in the water.

Here's Sarah being oh so serious like she always is.

Jacob is always willing to sit for me and give me a nice smile. Now it only I could get them all to do that - and at the same time.

"What are YOU looking at?"

Look at this cool thing. We think it's corn that never quite made it.

Pathways

We took a walk down the pathways with Amy and most of the kids today to enjoy a little bit of fall's beauty. The weather cooperated beautifully with us and we had a very nice, relaxing walk. And, of course, got lots and lots of pictures.

Can you tell these kids are related?

After our walk we got out our sandwiches and had lunch in the lawn. I think we spent more time here than we did on the path, but the kids had the most fun here. They had a few races, played hide and seek (they hid in the grass because there wasn't anywhere to hide but they didn't seem to mind) and they found some sort of dead animal in the ditch which is always very exciting.

I love this picture of Rachael. It's so hard to get any pics of Paige and Rachael because they're at that wonderful age of running from the camera. But I caught her when she wasn't paying attention to me. I love the way these older girls care for the babies. You can tell they really love them.

Amy took lots of great pictures of our walk. Check them out.

Lazy Day

We're taking advantage of this gorgeous weather while it's here, trying to spend as much time as possible outside. What a beautiful day it was today.

She spent the afternoon picking up leaves and pumpkins and putting them in her bucket.

"Mama, just look at this leaf! It's redder than anything!"

"Oh, now I know what color the roof is!"
"See that black thing sticking up? That's a chimm-iny. But why do we have a chimm-iny if we don't even have a fireplace?"

Grace's Birthday

Even though I had lots of help trying to get her smile nice for the camera, I didn't get a lot of good pictures. I did get lots of goofy ones, though. This is her "where's you nose?" face.

It didn't take her long to figure out how much fun it is to open presents.
Here she is sharing her new toys.

She was not really impressed with the whole birthday cake thing. She couldn't figure out what in the world we were doing.

Oct 10

What do you get when you let your baby play with a couple of five year olds?

Well, we needed a bath anyway

Don't forget your hair
